How it all works

HOW TO LICENSE MY SURFACE PATTERN DESIGNS

Let’s get making.

1.

YOU REACH OUT

Browse the library and reach out about anything that catches your eye — or if you have something custom in mind, tell me about your brand, your customer, and what you're looking for. If it sounds like a good fit, I’ll suggest an intro call to find out more about the project.

I usually respond within 1–2 business days.

2.

WE DISCUSS TERMS AND SCOPE

We’ll map out a proposal covering scope, pricing, licensing or buyout terms, and timelines. I prioritize clarity here so we both know exactly what's being created and how the rights will be managed. Once the contract is signed and the deposit is paid, the creative work begins.

After this stage, I will invite you to my Slack workspace — email threads are not the vibe.

3.

DESIGN AND DELIVERY

For custom work: I design to the brief, share progress at agreed checkpoints, and incorporate feedback before finalizing.

For existing pattern licensing: Files are prepared and delivered.

For all work: Production-ready files will be delivered in the formats you need — all labelled, organized, and accompanied by a clear usage guide. Any remaining payment will be invoiced on delivery.

File formats and colour profiles are confirmed at the previous stage to avoid surprises here.

4.

PRODUCTION AND PROMOTION

For licensing deals: If we agreed upon a royalty structure at the proposal stage, payments begin on a monthly or quarterly basis once your products are available.

For all deals: I will promote the products and our partnership on my social channels and networks — no extra cost, just genuine celebration.

And if we enjoyed working together? We start planning our next project.

Great work, us! Now let’s get started.

THE FIRST STEP IS YOURS

Tell me about your brand and what you're looking for. No commitment — just a conversation to start.

FAQ

  • I want to make sure you have everything you need for a perfect print. You’ll receive a production-ready PDF set to industry standards, high-resolution repeat tiles (TIFF) for your digital library, and — where our contract permits — a master Illustrator file. If your printer requires something specific, I’m happy to accommodate that. We’ll confirm all those details at the proposal stage so there are no surprises later.

  • Reach out — I’d love to get the full picture so I can help you navigate your options and find (or create) a design that works for your brand and product.

  • Licensing means you use the pattern for an agreed upon period and product run — I retain full ownership and rights. Buying outright means the rights transfer to you exclusively. Both have their place depending on your needs and budget. See more details here.

  • I’m more than happy to make small modifications like altering the repeat size, or creating a new colourway using existing colours from the collection to suit your needs — I want you to love your pattern. Significant changes such as custom colours, additional artwork, or altered composition will have to be discussed, and may incur an extra fee.

  • Price is based on project and contract specifications. After our initial conversation, I’ll provide you with a tailored quote for the work discussed. All prices listed on this site are in CAD$. See the starting prices for each model here.

  • Minor amends are included — what counts as minor is defined in the contract upfront, so there are no surprises. Significant scope changes are quoted separately.

  • Plans change — I get it. Cancellations are handled depending on the project type:

    • In all cases: the commencement fee is non-refundable and the rights to the artwork remain with me.

    • For library patterns: any remaining usage fees are waived.

    • For custom commissions: a sliding-scale kill fee also applies based on how far we've progressed, to ensure my time is compensated.

I’m not one for making things awkward, so if you want to work together in the future, don’t hesitate to get back in touch.

  • Every surface pattern and piece of artwork in my library is a 100% original work created by me. No AI is used in the generation of my art, and it never will be — there’s no fun in that for me.

I do, however, utilize a combination of digital tools and AI-generated imagery to create some of the mockups and environments where my work is displayed. This allows me to showcase the potential of a design, as well as my own visual direction. Again, I don’t let AI do the creative work I love doing myself; it is simply a tool that allows me to bring to life the ideas I otherwise wouldn't have the resources to produce.

  • Absolutely! International brands are very welcome here.

  • I’ve been told it’s fun, organized, and thoughtful. Check out my testimonials for more.
